On What We're Drinking With Dan Dunn: National Margarita Day

To celebrate the upcoming National Margarita Day (Sunday, February 22), Dan Dunn invited me on his podcast, What We’re Drinking With Dan Dunn, to talk about everyone’s favorite tequila cocktail. He also had spirits journalist Brad Japhe on to taste and discuss four tequilas and two mezcals. It was my second time on the podcast and I was still so nervous, even though Dan is a lot of fun and so chill.

I can’t bring myself to listen to it because I don’t like listening to myself. Why do I always talk so fast? I know I stumbled a bit, and at one point I was distracted when Dan then asked me a question and I just blurted out, “Yes.” Hopefully they edited out the awkwardness. But I swear, I had a lot of fun recording it! Dan and Brad discussed the different bottles and even how to mix them into certain Margarita recipes. I got to talk about my favorite Margarita recipes and tequilas—including the ones I’d spend good money on, a bit about my book, and promote my upcoming event at Hey Love in Portland.

For a little taste of the episode, here are some other things we covered:

  • Teaching Dan the correct way to pronounce “Camarena.”
  • Why the Tommy’s Margarita is the bartender’s go-to Margarita.
  • Celebrity brands: yay or nay?
  • Which tequila we’d actually pay our own money to drink.
  • The origin of my blog name.

Happy Margarita Day!
