Margarita Time x Sunken Sundays

Back in January, even before my book Margarita Time came out in March, St. John Frizell reached out to me asking if I’d like to be a guest speaker at Sunken Harbor Club’s series, Sunken Sundays. “We invite really interesting people to present to our guests on topics they find interesting, usually related to food and drink. Past speakers include Toni Tipton-Martin, Dwight Garner, David Wondrich, Jeff ‘Beachbum’ Berry, Robert Simonson, and Nicole A.Taylor. These can be one-person lectures with slides, a conversation with you and another speaker, a panel discussion, etc.— we’ve done it all,” he said. “Margaritas are of great interest to, well, everybody, so I think we could have some fun with your book! And of course New Yorkers are always curious about what’s going on in Los Angeles, whether they admit it or not.”

Unfortunately, I didn’t have plans to be in New York any time soon. I hadn’t even planned on going on a publicity tour since the book publisher only took care of the book’s launch and I didn’t have my own publicist.

But fortunately, I also got an invite to participate in Philadelphia’s Cookbooks and Convos annual event in October. And they were going to fly me out! So I just scheduled a NYC stop and also booked a train ride from NYC to Philly.

And now the Sunken Sundays with Margarita Time is a go! Bonus is that award-winning author and bartender Ivy Mix will be joining me. With St. John moderating, we’ll be chatting about Margaritas and tequila as well as doing a booksigning with Greenlight Bookstore. They’ll serve Margaritas from the book, including Ivy’s Sonambula, a frozen Marg, Ranch Water, and John de Bary’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Tickets are $50 and include the four cocktails. Margarita Time and Ivy’s Spirits of Latin America will be sold by the bookstore at the event.
