Otium Serves Up a CBD Cocktails Tasting Menu

— by Caroline on Crack

In celebration of 420 Day, Otium‘s bar director Chris Amirault (formerly of Harlowe) will be serving up a variety of CBD cocktails! You can try each one for $20 a piece. Or just totally go for it (it’s Friday!) and run through the entire tasting menu for $65. The selection includes the Pineapple Express, the CBD-oil-laced Negroni variation already on the bar’s regular menu. So I’d say if you’re watching your intake go for the other ones first because who knows when you’ll get to try them again.

Gracias Madre was one of the first to shine a spotlight on CBD cocktails back in 2016 before recreational pot was legal in California. And when it was finally legalized this year, Chris wanted to help champion cannabis as a viable food and beverage ingredient. So he reached out to bartender Jason Eisner, who had invented those first CBD cocktails at Gracias Madre. Jason then introduced him to Colorado’s H. Hemp Company, which created affordable coconut- and lemon-flavored MCT cannabis oils.

How do they taste in these particular cocktails? “The oils contribute a highly concentrated cannabis flavor. Cannabis has an herbaceous and grassy note that compliments most sugars and citrus,” Chris said. “In the Pineapple Express, those herbaceous notes contribute to the bitterness of the Negroni but also the coconut adds to the tropical feeling. In the Sour Diesel, the lemon notes from the CBD oil add a bright acidity to the entire cocktail, highlighting the botanicals of the gin and the slight floral notes from the yuzu honey!”

If you miss the pot cocktails at Otium, not to fret. Gracias Madre in West Hollywood still serves them, even though Jason Eisner has left the company. New bartender director Maxwell Reis is running Jason’s original three (Stoney Negroni, Rolled Fashioned and Sour T-iesel) plus a couple of his own:
