Election Day Drink Specials

Election Gold Drink Stirrers by GnomeSweetGnomeShop on Etsy

This Tuesday there are several bars in L.A. offering Election Day drink specials, especially when you come in sporting your shiny new “I Voted” sticker. Plus many will be showing the election returns on their large flat screens. What better way to spend this evening which will no doubt be a nail biter? There’s something here for everyone, whether you’re for Obama, Romney or even STILL undecided.

The Association: Party starts at 4pm when they’ll be airing the coverage on their three 50-inch HD Plasma TVs. Happy hour runs from 6 to 9pm with $5 craft beer and small plates and $6 specialty cocktails. RSVP required.

Cana: Allan Katz, general manager at the downtown rum bar, says that even though they don’t have TVs they will broadcast the NPR radio coverage over the speakers. If Obama wins, there will be “Free Healthcare” aka free daiquiris for everyone already in the bar. Should the other guy win? Milk with a bendy straw.

Casey’s: The downtown Irish pub isn’t offering any election night drink or food specials per se but will be airing the coverage on all their giant TV screens.  Their usual happy hour is from 3 to 7pm with discounted offerings like $5 Jameson picklebacks and $4 well.

The Churchill: Per usual, The Churchill has its 50% off bottled wine special on Tuesdays, but for election night they’ll also screen the returns on their many TVs throughout the bar/restaurant.

The Famous: Will be showing the election coverage with sound over their humongous TVs and those who show up with the “I Voted” sticker get 10% off their bill. The Famous‘ “boozeier” Nick Vitulli said they’ll be serving up a bourbon-based punch called “Yes We Can…Again!” and a glass of milk called “The End of Civilization as We Know It.”

Hungry Cat Hollywood: The bar/restaurant on Vine will be serving up half price cocktails all day.

Neat: Leave it to Neat bar owner Aidan Demarest to do this with a sense of humor as he celebrates Indecision Tuesday with $2 half shots of any spirit “to give them a whirl first before committing to a whole drink.” And $2 for half beers to chase it.

Sadie: At the Hollywood bar/restaurant Giovanni Martinez has created the Swing State Punch made with Mt. Gay Rum from Barbados which will be going for $6 a glass all night as a tribute to our first president George Washington. Apparently back in 1789 good ol’ George ordered up a barrel of Barbados Rum to be consumed at his inauguration. And if you show up to the lounge with your “I Voted” sticker between 6pm and 10pm you can score a free bar bite like oyster Po Boy, ahi tuna tacos or mac n’ cheese.

Tavern: Those who show up with the “I Voted” sticker get happy hour prices from 7pm to close, beyond the regular happy hour from 3 to 7pm.  Specials include beer, cocktails and wine from $3 to $8. The election will play out on their flat screens in the Blue Room.

Votes for Whisky: Johnnie “The Scot” Mundell will be trading whisky for your votes, meaning that starting at 5pm you turn in your “I Voted” sticker at Seven Grand or the Daily Pint and you score a Glen Grant scotch flight. Turn it in at Sassafras or Oldfield’s and get a Glen Grant cocktail. What’s up with Johnnie’s generosity? “The last Clan revolt in Scotland was lead by a member of the family that founded the Glen Grant distillery. But as a Scot I can’t vote in your election, but my wife thought given the work I’ve done trading Whisky for Poetry, it would be fun to reward voters by trading whisky for their voted sticker.” The special runs all night.
