Hate to break it to you but despite our perfect, pool-party weather, summer vacation is over. The good news is that we have new fall cocktail menus to look forward to. Case in point, the new fall Rivera cocktail menu by bartender extraordinaire Julian Cox debuts at the downtown restaurant on Wednesday the 12th. And if you’re familiar with Julian’s work at Sotto, Picca, Short Order and Playa, then you know that delicious ingenuity awaits you.

Like what, you ask?

“We wanted to update Rivera’s bar program in terms of teaching our team new techniques and processes that they never had a chance to play with,” said Julian. “You will see everything from immersion circulators to soda to dehydration and more.” Yowza.

Old favorites like Barbacoa, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Donaji and Rivera’s Cup as well as the Latin Rum Cocktails of Hotel Nacional, La Floridita #3 and Constantino’s Revenge will remain on the menu. But you’ll see new seasonal cocktails as well as “A Tribute to Sherry.” To celebrate their debut they’ll be specially priced at $9 for Wednesday night only.

Unfortunately, the press release didn’t offer much more than the names of the new cocktails to get your mouth watering:

**Seasonal: **Autumn Sour | ABC Cocktail | Paloma | Sir Drake | Tequila Para Mi Amante | Pistachio Negroni

**A Tribute to Sherry: **Jane’s Addiction | Saved by the Basil | Flor de Jerez | Vote 4 Pedro

But at least here are a couple of the sherry cocktail recipes for you to try on your own, courtesy of Julian.

Jane’s Addiction

  • 3/4 oz lemon
  • 3/4 oz simple
  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz Fino sherry
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters

Shake and add 1 oz soda and garnish with an orange twist. Collins with ice.

Flor de Jerez: Julian created this drink as tribute to one by Joaquin Simo of Death and Company.

  • 1 1/2 oz Amontillado
  • 3/4 oz lemon
  • 1/2 oz Smith and Cross
  • 1/2 oz Rhum JM cane syrup
  • 1/4 oz Bitter Truth apricot liquor
  • dash Angostura

Combine in mixing glass with ice. Stir. And serve up in a coupe.
