The first weekend of the rest of your 2011. How are you going to spend it?

Thursday, January 6

Miss Dakota’s Burlesque Academy
Forget the gym and all its New Year resolutioners. At this burlesque boot camp, which kicks off tonight, you get a great workout while picking up some sexy skills like The Art of the Tease and prop play. And don’t worry if you’re shy, cocktails will be served to give you that much needed liquid courage.

  • 7-8:15pm. 4-week class series for $75. The Painted Nail Lounge, 13327 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks (map).

Spare Room Is Open
Not content with just lounging around while you’re cocktailing? The new bowling alley/cocktail lounge above the Library Bar in the Hollywood Roosevelt may be just the thing to shake you from your drinking ennui. Get a group of six together and for $100 an hour, you get the lane to yourself, including what are possibly the world’s most expensive bowling shoe rentals, the $700 George Esquivel shoes.

  • The Spare Room, 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood (map).  Reservations: (323) 769-7296.

Friday, January 7

Mas Malo Opens
Bigger, more gorgeous and even hipper than its little Silver Lake sister, Mas Malo in downtown is opening its doors on Friday. Peruse the extensive tequila collection in the tasting vault or savor your old Malo stand-by, Medicina Latina, in the speakeasy-esque cantina.

  • Mas Malo, 515 W. 7th Street, Downtown (map). (213) 985-4332.

Saturday, January 8

Eagle Rock Brewery Inaugural Anniversary
Celebrate the 1-year anniversary of this wonderful local brewery and get an awesome drink deal. For just $10 you get a commemorative glass plus FOUR drink tickets! Partake of the anniversary ale and the award-winning Red Velvet beer for starters. Bring your ERB growler, too, as the tap room opens up after the party.

  • 12-4pm. Eagle Rock Brewery, 3056 Roswell Street, Eagle Rock (map).

Downtown Independent’s Naked Gun/Airplane Beer Pong/Drink Along
What better way to pay tribute to Leslie “Don’t Call Me Shirley” Nielsen than at this double feature/boozy party? First beer is on the house, always a good thing. Plus they’ll have all-night beer pong on the roof! Just don’t chase after that ball.

  • 7pm. $10 advance, $12 door. 251 S. Main Street, Downtown (map).
