Nike+ Human Race 5K/10K at USC
Woo hoo! I’m really going to do it, run my first 10K event! It’s been awhile since the marathon but I have a whole bunch of incentives for this one: a midnight run (so weird!), a tailgate party (12 hours later) where I’d get VIP entry, barbecue, cupcakes and beer and a DriFit race shirt. Plus I’ll be running with the whole world. Runners around the world united, how cool is that?

  • 12:01am (Friday/Saturday). Registration: $25. Los Angeles Coliseum, 3939 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles (map).

BevMo’s 100th Store Mega-Tasting Event
Mega booze store BevMo wants to celebrate its 100th store opening with you. This mega celebration/fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the South Bay will showcase a variety of the nation’s most celebrated wineries, spirits and brewers. And for $15 you get tasting tickets, a commemorative 100th store wine glass and a goody bag as well as barbecue, hors d’oeuvres and live music. But the highlight has got to be the chance to taste one of the rarest Cognacs in the world. A Hard Cognac sells for $6,005 a bottle and this will be the only chance you get to taste it without purchasing it.

  • 11am-5pm. BevMo, 2533-A Pacific Coast Highway, Torrance (map).

Demystifying the Asian Grocery Store Tour at A-Grocery Warehouse
Another event sure to be a foodie favorite. Author of Southeast Asian Flavors, chef Robert Danhi, and Kogi BBQ’s chef Roy Choi take you on a special one-hour tour of one of our city’s best-stocked Asian markets where you’ll learn about and get to taste ingredients. Cost is $40 and you get a copy of Danhi’s book as well as a gift bag of Asian ingredients! At 6pm, the Kogi truck will be on hand where you’ll get to try one of Chef Danhi’s recipes, Thai Explosively Flavored Tamarind-Coconut Bites with Peanut. There are four tours with room for only 10 people in each group so buy your tickets now. If sold out, contact order [at] southeastasianflavors.com to be on the waiting list.
