This Weekend: Wine-os, Mrs. Robinson, Hoff Burger-Eating Contest

— by Caroline on Crack

Some weekends I just want to be lazy and lie around. But by the looks of things — with it being Father’s Day and the Summer Solstice — this isn’t the weekend to do that.

Friday, June 19

Corkbar Winemaker Event: Ethan Wines
A flight of five wines for $19! Central Coast winemaker Ethan Lindquist will be on hand to help pour and discuss the latest vintage of his wine. Sample some hand-crafted, single vineyard wines and mingle with the winemaker. No RSVP necessary.

  • 5pm. $19. Corkbar, 403 W. 12th Street, Downtown (map). (213) 746-0050.

Saturday, June 20

International Make-Up Artist Tradeshow 2009
Why would you want to go to a make-up artist tradeshow, you ask? Because for just the price of the $15 exhibit-floor only ticket, you can get that back in free samples! You can also score makeup, beauty tools and more at discounted prices. Don’t worry, it’s open to the public.

  • Saturday-Sunday. $15 for one-day exhibit floor access, $35 one day all access. Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E. Green Street, Pasadena (map).

The Graduate Cemetery Screening
I’m finally going to a cemetery screening! Yup, amazingly I haven’t gone to one yet despite all the great movies that have already been shown in this eery setting. So I’ll be there with my friends, enjoying a picnic on some gravestones and sipping cocktails while viewing a very young Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate. Awesome movie. If you go, remember: No tall chairs.

  • 7:30pm gates open. $10. Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Hollywood (map).

Baywatch Cocktail Party at Rush Street
Rush Street is bringing the beach to Culver City with its three-day “beach” party. But the Saturday party sounds like the most bizarre fun as it boasts a David Hasselhoff burger-eating contest. So cue up that drunken Hoff video on YouTube and get practicing. Summer cocktails will also be half-price all night in the “sand bar” to help you with an authentic portrayal.

  • 8pm-2am. Rush Street, 9546 Washington Boulevard, Culver City (map). (310) 837-9546.

Sunday, June 21

2nd Annual Sporteve Culver City 5K Run/Walk
Enjoy this quick, flat course on Washington Boulevard through Culver City and afterward check out the expo in the park for all the food and fun. Online registration closes at noon on Friday. And it’s all for a good cause: the Wellness Community-West Los Angeles, which helps individuals and families affected by cancer.

  • 8:30am. $30 until 6/18, $35 after 6/18. Media Park, 9070 Venice Boulevard, Culver City (map).

Free Treats to the First 500: From Cool Haus to Sprinkles
To promote movie (500) Days of Summer, you have your chance to score free goodies just by showing up at the right place at the right time. Be one of the first 500 freebie fiends to show up at the Brig in Venice by 2:30 and score “architecture-themed ice cream bars.” And guess what you get if you beat 500 people to the Sprinkles truck at the Grove at 3? Yup, cupcakes!

Silver Lake Wine Sunday Tasting: Italian Wine and Cecconi’s
You may not be familiar with the Italian wine they’ll be pouring at this Sunday’s tasting at Silver Lake but you do know Cecconi’s, right? That classic Italian restaurant in WeHo that took over the ol’ Morton’s space. And Cecconi’s executive chef, Andrea Cavalier, will be on hand to prepare the courses to go with each wine. Featured wines: La Contea pignolo Bianco IGT 2007, Burlotto Langhe Freisa 2006, Burlotto Verduno Pelaverga 2007 and Abbazia di Rosazzo Pignolo Rosso 2000.

  • 3pm. $20. Silver Lake Wine, 2995 Glendale Boulevard, Los Angeles (map). (323) 662-9024.
