This Weekend: Toy Swap, Free Coffee, Craft & Bowl

— by Caroline on Crack

Just when you thought it was summer, the rain comes and reminds you that yes, it’s January. Here are some ideas to keep you out of the rain. Well, except that toy swap in a parking lot.

Friday, January 23

The Dark Knight in IMAX Rereleased
I’ve always kicked myself for only seeing the Dark Knight in a plain ol’ theater when the movie was filmed in IMAX. So I never got to see it how it was meant to be seen — kickass clarity on a huuuge screen. Fortunately, due to the movie’s recent award nominations, DK in IMAX is now back in theaters! I wanna see it on The Bridge‘s 62-foot-tall screen, one of the largest IMAX screens in the world.

Western Regional Barista Competition 2009
Check out the best of the best coffee makers at this Intelligentsia-hosted competition. Nope, not coffee pots, baristas. And the best part here is that you can get competition-caliber coffee for free and served by top baristas!

  • Friday and Sunday, 10am-6pm; Sunday, 10am-3pm. Spring Arts Tower, 453 S Spring Street, Downtown (map).

Saturday, January 24

Wacko Toy Swap and Sale
This sounds so cute and fun. Toys! Old and new, childhood favorites and new collectibles. Peruse this monthly collectible toy trade or even swap your own childhood treasures with new offerings from kidrobot, Tokidoki, Strange Co., Mindstyle and more. If you’d rather have something new, the store will be having a sale on their new inventory. Punch and cookies will be served, too. Aw. Hopefully it doesn’t rain too hard since this event is in the store parking lot.

  • 3pm. Wacko, 4633 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles (map). (323) 663-0122.

Aero Theatre’s Alfred Hitchcock Double Feature: Rebecca and Notorious
Man, I used to have such a crush on Laurence Olivier and of course loved him in Rebecca as the brooding Maxim de Winter. Ah, Larry, the start of my attraction to broody men with accents. Anyway, a Hitchcock double feature is the perfect way to spend a rainy Saturday night.

  • 7:30pm. $10. Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica (map).

Sunday, January 25

Craft Night and Music at All Star Lanes
Crafting, live music and bowling. What more can you ask for? At this first-time craft night, not only will you be able to make your own nifty buttons but you get to enjoy some great L.A. bands! Awesome part is that there’s no cover.

  • 8pm. Free. All Star Lanes, 4459 Eagle Rock Boulevard, Eagle Rock (map). (323) 254-2579.
