Man, I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to live in a world where booze was illegal for 13 years. 13! Well, it’s no wonder that the anniversary of the day they repealed Prohibition still warrants lots of huzzahs and partying even 75 years later. If you want to get out there and toast Repeal Day, the following bars will be throwing their own boozy shindigs tomorrow, December 5.

There are several bars Dewar’s is sponsoring for the holiday so that you can order Dewar’s whiskey for only 75 cents until 11pm and then it’s just $3 after: Redwood Bar & Grill in Downtown, Mandrake in Culver City and Bigfoot Lodge in Atwater Village to name a few.

The Edison in Downtown L.A. is the perfect place to celebrate this holiday, not only for its underground, speakeasy feel but the bar will be cracking open its own batch of branded Woodford Reserve Bourbon for a midnight toast to the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the organization that spearheaded the crusade for Prohibition. Soul/jazz artist Miles Mosely is the musical guest. And remember that it’ll also be Soup Kitchen Friday happy hour from 5 to 7pm when you can get bourbon cocktails for just 35 cents. 108 W 2nd Street, Downtown (map). (213) 613-0000.

In West Hollywood, Comme Ca‘s bartenders will be celebrating with four classic cocktails, a nod to the days of moonshine and speakeasies. If you email the restaurant ahead of time at info [at] commecarestaurant.com, you can get a password which grants you a drink for just 75 cents (one cheap drink per customer) when spoken to the bartender. It’s just a guess but I’m thinking this place is going to be crazy packed. 8479 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood (map). (323) 782-1104.

Venice’s own speakeasy, Townhouse, recently renovated and the site of many of Jim Morrison’s drunken nights back in the day, will be blowing out the holiday with special Repeal Day cocktails, live music and dancing girls! Who can top burlesque? 52 Windward Avenue, Venice (map). (310) 392-4040.

The Good Nite Bar in NoHo invites you to “be patriotic and drink to your freedom.” Enjoy $4 pints and $5 Jack Daniels! 10721 Burbank Boulevard, North Hollywood (map). (818) 286-3929.
