Try Scoops’ New Flavors for Change
If you missed out on the Flavors for Change ice cream social on Tuesday, you can still try out the winning Obama-inspired flavors that were voted the best. There’s “Obaiden,” “Baracky Road,” “Blue Forever,” “Alternative Energy” and “Obama Victory” sorbet. As many of you know, there’s no such thing as a bad flavor at Scoops.

Friday, October 31

4th Annual L.A. International Tamale Festival
Let it be known that tamales make for a great hangover meal. So it’s perfect that the tamale fest starts on Halloween and extends through the weekend. It’s not all about eating, though. They’ve got a tamale cook-off, an altar making contest, lots of live musical performances…and a tamale eating contest. Burp!

Haunted Hollywood Scavenger Hunt
A fun and unusual way to celebrate Halloween with some friends. Check out this special haunted Hollywood scavenger hunt that will take you through some of L.A.’s spookiest places like the Roosevelt and the Knickerbocker Hotel. No ghost hunting knowledge needed but you should have a knack for word problems. And bring a flashlight and comfortable shoes. You can form a team of up to six peeps and the winning teams will win prizes.

Saturday, November 1

Dia de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever Cemetery
One of the best and largest Day of the Dead celebrations out there what with 5,000 to 10,000 revelers anticipated. They’ll be celebrating this Mexican holiday with live music, handmade altars for ancestors, parades, and food. But don’t think this is one more chance to show off your Halloween costume. This isn’t the place for it. Instead, your finest skeleton/Calaca apparel is requested. Ceremonial altar setup takes place on Halloween.

Fall 2008 Brewery ArtWalk
Peek into the lofts of over 100 resident artists at the Brewery. You’ll get a chance to chat up the artists while viewing their work and to purchase their unique creations at this biannual event. If you want to take a break between all that walking and soaking in of culture, grab some lunch, beers and cocktails at Barbara’s Bar and Restaurant. Or check out the Hipcooks studio to see what tasty treats they’re cooking up for the occasion.
