This Weekend: The Last Cupcake, Absinthe Tasting and GObama

— by Caroline on Crack

Busy weekend! Since my Halloween costume is all ready to go, I’ll be spending my days buying new home decor at the Domino Bazaar at HD Buttercup and then doing the AIDS Walk. What have you got going on? If nothing yet, you might want to look into the following.**

Friday, October 17

Leda’s Bake Shop Last Days for Cupcakes
WTF? The bake shop famed for their cupcakes will no longer be selling the cute cakes as of this Saturday! Apparently they are “too labor intensive” to make. So if you want to taste what L.A. cupcake fiends consider some of the best cupcakes in our city, pay your respects tomorrow and Saturday.

  • Friday and Saturday 10:30am to 6pm. 13722 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks (map). (818) 386-9644.

Barack On! Obamathon at Fresh Pressed
Still haven’t gotten your Obama t-shirt? At Fresh Pressed this weekend local artists have contributed their pro-Obama designs to screenprint on shirts, garments and posters. It’s $20 a shirt/garment or $10 to do up your own clothing or poster. Cash only, peeps. Plus there will be an Obama bake sale to satisfy your sweet tooth as well as drinks and djs.

  • 6-11pm. Fresh Pressed, 4646 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Feliz (map).

Love Sessions Voter Registration party and fashion show at Versus Nightclub
Another fun way to show your support is the voter registration party at Versus nightclub where you can register to vote and then dance to hip hop and rock mashups spun by DJ ?uestlove and Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes til 3am. There will also be a fashion show featuring the hip fashions of LRG Clothing, JUZD Bamboo, Factory Girl Clothing and Grefphenreed.

  • 8:30pm-3am. $15 pre-sale tickets/$20 at the door. Versus, 618 S. Spring Street, Downtown (map).

L’Absinthe C’est La Mort at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery
What better way to get in the mood for a spooky Halloween than enjoying an absinthe tasting in a cemetery? Not only will you be seeing green fairies but perhaps ghosts! Oooh, scary! The tasting will provide some of the finest absinthe available and contain authentic Grande wormwood. There will also be a Masonic ritual aka a magic lantern show as well as live music provided by Janet Klein and her Parlor Boys.

  • 9pm. $20 (not including absinthe). Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles (map).

Saturday, October 18

New Brunch Menu and $10 Prosecco at Little Dom’s
Little Dom’s is kicking off a new brunch menu this weekend with prices ranging from the $4 Nutella Panino (grilled bread with housemade jam and Nutella) to the $17 steak and eggs (poached with a 7-ounce NY steak, grilled bread and fennel pollen hollandaise). Or you can try their famous ricotta cheese and fresh blueberry pancakes with maple syrup for only $6. And wash it down with $10 bottles of Carpene Malvoti Prosecco or house red/white wine. Or if you really want that morning cocktail, you can mix up your own Bellinis!

  • Saturdays and Sundays 8am-3pm. Little Dom’s, 2128 Hillhurst Avenue, Los Feliz (map).

2008 AIDS Walk: Donate or Join Team Crackhead
Hey folks, the day is here! Time to donate to this great cause and/or join my team of crackheads as we raise money for Aids Project Los Angeles and enjoy a 6.2-mile stroll around West Hollywood. Any support you can give would be much appreciated! Go Crackheads! If you’d just like to walk with us, meet us at the corner of San Vicente and Melrose on the same corner as the Pacific Design Center at 9:15am. I’ll be carrying a Team Crackhead sign. After the walk, we can hit up The Abbey for lunch and drinks.

  • 8:30am sign-in, 10am walk begins. West Hollywood Park, 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard, West Hollywood (map).
