Reminder: Register for the 2008 AIDS Walk

— by Caroline on Crack

Is this economy getting you down? Feel a bit better by doing something great for others, like participating in the 2008 AIDS Walk. Not only will you be raising money to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles but you’ll get a healthy 6.2-mile stroll around West Hollywood. It’s even more fun when you do it with a bunch of friends!

I requested the creation of Team Crackhead at the AIDS Walk and am waiting to hear if they accept it or whatever but if they do, look for “Team Crackhead” on the “Join a Team” page when you go to register. You wouldn’t get a CoC t-shirt or anything but you’ll meet other crackheads and we could walk together and hit the Abbey for post-walk cocktails and lunch. Heh.

In any case, this is an event that I support every year as I believe in its cause. AIDS Project Los Angeles helps those affected by HIV disease, reduces the incidence of HIV infection and advocates for fair and effective HIV-related public policy.

To participate as a walker, all you have to do is register and then create your online fundraising page on the AIDS Walk site, if you sign up individually. Very easy to do. It helps you keep track of the funds you raise and shows everyone what a good job you’re doing.

Raising funds is a cinch, too. You just email your peeps and ask them to donate whatever amount they want. I’ve done this at work and sent a round of emails to my friends with great results.

And if you raise over $1,000 (surprisingly easy to do) you earn Star Walker status and are entitled to a special Star Walker breakfast at the day of the event as well as a quick-and-easy sign-in, as opposed to those long lines.

The route itself offers lots to look at as it starts off at Santa Monica and San Vicente, winds down to Melrose and then you hit La Brea and head back via Beverly Boulevard. Lots of motivation along the way with clothes stores to windowshop as well as the occasional firetruck with firemen squirting their firehose at you to cool you down and radio station stands blasting on motivating dance tunes.

By the end of the 10K, you’re feeling good and tired. Hope you can join! Or if not, I’d appreciate it if you sponsored me. Just click here to make your donations to Caroline on Crack/Team Crackhead. Thanks!
