OK, not the way I want to start a Monday but I’m soo bummed about George Carlin. It’s not like he was a close personal friend but he made me laugh and cringe and go, “Ooooooh.” And I loved him as Rufus in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. May he rest in peace.

In lighter frivolous news, wanna deal with this heat and get your toes summer pretty? Today and tomorrow you can enjoy a free pina colada at nail salon Bellacures with any service you choose. You may want to pair it with the special June service, the coconut soak mani ($50) and/or pedi ($70), if you want to keep the tropical theme going.

Verdugo Bar is having a “special private” IPA tasting next Sunday, June 29 from 5:30 to 8pm but I don’t know if that means I’m not supposed to tell anyone or if it’s just because there’s limited seating. Well whatev, it’s $20 to participate and pre-payment is required to save your space. RSVP asap to tasting list [at] verdugobar.com or call (323) 257-3408.

The Colony Cafe in West L.A. has extended its hours now so that it’s open at 8am through 8pm Monday through Friday. FINALLY! Now you can actually enjoy a breakfast (Bagel Press sandwich) and a dinner (bacon-wrapped hot dog or BTLA burger) there. And I can now pick up my beloved Tropical Bliss smoothie on my way to work! I know the Web site still says the short hours of 11am to 5pm on weekdays, but I’m going by the huge banner on the restaurant and the signs on its doors.

Google users, FYI, I have a special gadget you can add to your customized Google page. I update it every time I blog something new so you don’t have to wait for the newsletter or Twitter. I think it’s pretty nifty.

Thanks to Thrillist for this heads-up, but there’s this site called RepairPal where you can estimate how much it would take to repair your car. The site also gives you a list of common problem areas for your particular car and a list of repair shops in your hood. No word on if or when they’ll cover Vespa repair shops.

Speaking of Vespas, yesterday I tried to pick up my new Vespa at the dealership. It’s taken me this long because I couldn’t decide if I wanted the LX 150 or if I wanted to pay $800 more for the cute vintage-looking LXV. But regardless, they were completely sold out of LX 150s. Vespas seem to be pretty popular lately in light of the outrageously high gas prices. Anyhow, apparently the 2008s don’t come in the plum color I wanted. So I now have to wait til next week to get the Portofino Green 2008. Next week! Boo.

BTW, I HATE hate hate the DMV, especially the one in Santa Monica. Flames…on the side of my face…burning, heaving….
