Hmm, I vaguely recall that there was something going on this weekend but I can’t remember what it is…. Hm. Anyway, here are some things to do if you don’t have any plans. Oh yeah! The Oscars!

Friday, February 22

Midnight Movie: Heavy Metal
OMG, I remember this movie from when I was a kid. Yes, my folks let us watch this gory and pornographic cartoon. My sibs and I especially loved the story of the platinum-maned heroine who cut the bad guys in two. Anyway a midnight showing (after hitting a couple of bars) sounds like the perfect time to watch this retro movie that features music from Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick and Devo.

  • $8. 12am. Fairfax Cinemas, 7907 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles (map).

UCB Gets You Laid
Check it out, Blind Date Live! Two random audience members will be paired up to go on a date during the show with a camera following them around while comedians Paul F. Tompkins, Neil Campbell and Paul Rust, to name a few, provide a running commentary on the magical/tragic encounter for the in-theater audience. Hmm, maybe I should have done this for the Valentine Date contest?

  • $8. 8pm. Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, 5919 Franklin Avenue, Los Angeles (map). (323) 908-8702.

Saturday, February 23

Love Kills Slowly Burlesque at Bordello Bar
When I think of Bordello Bar I can’t help but think of burlesque and half-expect those corset-wearing bartenders to break out into a bump and grind. I think it’s all those red walls and chandeliers. Fortunately, there will be a real live burlesque show presented by PinupGirlClothing.com and Viva Los Angeles Burlesque. Watch girls Violet, Micheline, Laura and Leia Lockheart strut their stuff.

  • $5. 8pm. Bordello, 910 E 1st Street, Downtown (map).

Sunday, February 24

Oscar Night with Cinefamily
None of your friends throwing an Oscar viewing party? Spend the evening with Cinefamily watching the award show spectacle on the Silent Movie Theater’s big screen. What a perfect homage to Hollywood. There will be snacks and plush sofas to make you feel all nice and comfortable in case it runs long and even a voting ballot to keep things interesting. Afterwards you can walk down the street to the Dime for a post-Oscar drink.

  • $10. 4pm. Silent Movie Theatre, 611 N. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles (map).
