This summer, Wilshire Restaurant in Santa Monica has just the thing for you, you lucky ziggy piggy: Ice Cream Shoppe Tuesday Nights with pastry chef/soda jerk Danielle Keene.

The banana split, though, should set ice cream aficionados’ hearts racing. It’s a big one, replete with three kinds of ice cream — vanilla, candied ginger and strawberry settled among an avalanche of fresh fruit…nectarines, strawberries and even a little caramelized banana in there, and a drizzling of various sauces — and, of course, a cherry, a fresh one, to finish it off.
The menu changes weekly but you can look forward to such delights ranging from the traditional to the exotic (as listed on the Wilshire menu):
TRADITIONAL BANANA SPLIT ($10): vanilla, cocoa nib & strawberry ice cream with hot fudge, fresh strawberries, caramelized pineapple, crème fraîche whipped cream, toasted almonds, chocolate pearls
ROOT BEER FLOAT ($9): Virgil’s root beer, vanilla, sassafras & chocolate chip ice cream
STRAWBERRY RHUBARB SUNDAE ($9): fresh strawberries, rhubarb compote, crumbled lemon gingersnaps, candied ginger ice cream, crème fraîche whipped cream
- FOUR CONES ($12): rocky road gelato, strawberry sorbet, honeycomb ice cream and coconut lemongrass sherbet scooped into freshly made sugar cones & presented in a cone holder
FROZEN SAMPLER ($10): fudgesicle, mint chip brownie ice cream sandwich & a frangelico ice cream shooter
SPECIAL SCOOP OF THE DAY ($3): Saffron vanilla bean
Mmm, that frozen sampler sounds divine! Of course if for some weird reason you don’t like what you see here, wait a week and see what Keene comes up with on the new menu. The only thing is, you can’t enjoy these cool treats on a sunny day since the ice cream shoppe is only open on Tuesday nights from 6pm-10pm.
