Frick! I didn’t mail off a Father’s Day card for my dad yet! If he lived here, I could probably have made it up to him by taking him to one of the following events (well, maybe not the Lucky’s sale). But as it is, I’ll just hope that he won’t guilt me too much. Sorry, Dad!

Lucky Brand Jeans Semi-Annual Sale Event
OK, this is just for me but Lucky Brand Jeans are my fave jeans because not only do they make my butt look nice, unlike higher-end denim, but they’re not super expensive. And now Lucky’s is even cheaper during its semi-annual sale where jeans, tanks, and knits for men and women are marked 50% off. My fave Socialite jeans, with the oh-so-flattering back pocket flaps, are now marked down to $59. Huzzah!

  • June 15-July 4 at Lucky Brand Jeans locations.

Opening Day of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
My dad loves these big Hollywood blockbusters full of special effects and action, especially if cute girls like Jessica Alba are involved. If your daddy is the same way, treat him to a show at the ArcLight and then maybe a beer at the Bowery after. RottenTomatoes.com gave the movie only a 24%, but, anything for dad, right?

  • $11, $9.75 for Seniors (60+) on shows before 6pm. ArcLight Cinemas, 6360 W. Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood.

Saturday, June 16

Lagunitas Beer Tasting at BottleRock
BottleRock, a great wine bar in Culver City, will be hosting a beer tasting. Yes, beer. This special Father’s Day event takes place in the bar and on the newly expanded patio out front. The flights from Lagunitas Brewing Company will include their IPA (India Pale Ale), Maximus, and Porter brews.

  • $12, June 16 at 12pm, June 17 at 3pm. BottleRock, 3847 Main Street, Culver City. (310) 836-WINE.

29th Annual Playboy Jazz Festival
My friend Saucy keeps trying to get me to go to this jazzy Bowl show but I’m more of a classic standards fan than anything else. But with Etta James included in the lineup of acts, I might consider it. Anyway, Saucy brings his dad to the Festival every year and swears it’s a good time. Break open a picnic basket and a bottle of wine and enjoy the tunes.

  • $17.50-$130. June 16 at 2:30, June 17 at 2pm. Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Avenue, Hollywood.

Sunday, June 17

Firefly Bistro’s Father’s Day Blues Barbecue
Barbecue! South Pasadena’s Firefly Bistro will be celebrating Dad’s Day with its 4th annual family-style barbecue event. Dishes to split with your father or whomever include the yummy-sounding smoked bacon and chive hush puppies with Tabasco mayo ($5.50); grilled kielbasa with beer-braised onions; soul food-style baby back pork ribs with brown sugar-red chili bbq; grilled coconut shrimp with Caribbean mango bbq sauce (meats $20); and for dessert, apricot cobbler and chocolate whiskey cake ($7.50 each). Did someone say “whiskey cake”? Blues tunes will be provided by Barry “Big B” Brenner.

  • Seating starts at 11am. Firefly Bistro, 1009 El Centro Street, South Pasadena. Reservations: (626) 441-2443.

Ciudad’s Father’s Day Feast
Ciudad is also offering a meatfest of its own in honor of dear ol’ dad. Here, you’ve got adobo pork tamales; chili-dusted soft shell crab; and Argentine mixed grill with pork ribs, skirt steak, mini chorizo and chicken skewers with chimichurri sauce. Enjoy that along with the feast’s specialty drink, the Father’s Day Rum Sampler Trio — 10 Cane, Aniversario Reserva Exclusiva, and Zaya Gran Reserva served with lime, simple syrup and ice. The regular Tapas Sunday menu will also be available.

  • 5-9pm. Ciudad, 445 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles. Reservations: (213) 486-5171.
