It’s going to be a special weekend what with the rare blue moon (the second full moon in a calendar month) making an appearance. Hopefully if it’s a clear night you can spend it moongazing with friends or that special someone. But what to do after?

Thursday, May 31

Once in a Blue Moon Dinner at Avalon
The Avalon’s chic blue on blue restaurant will be celebrating the blue moon with a poolside blue-inspired dinner of blue corn tortilla crusted crab cakes, humboldt fog blue cheese, blue nose tuna nicoise, grilled NY steak with point reyes blue, and blueberry shortcake. Drink specials include Blue Moon Beer and specialty blue on blue martinis.

  • 6pm-10:30pm. $65/person. blue on blue at Avalon, 9400 West Olympic Boulevard, Beverly Hills 90212. Reservations.

Friday, June 1

Moonlight Hike at Big Santa Anita Canyon
This is something I’ve always wanted to do, hike with just the moon lighting the way. And it’ll be a blue moon at that. Lovely! Hikers meet at Chantry Flat armed with flashlights and hiking boots. They are then taken on a leisurely 2-mile roundtrip hike. Keep in mind that this is more of a social event than a workout. The pack leader will bring the drinks and appetizers. All you have to do is dress appropriately for the activity and the weather, bring a flashlight (with a red filter) and enjoy the sights and sounds of the night.

Natural History Museum’s Last First Friday: Deerhoof and Autolux
Every first Friday of the month since January, the museum stayed open late til 10pm allowing guests to party among the fossils and this Friday is the last of the First Fridays series. Bay Area rock band Deerhoof and L.A. art rock band Autolux provide the tunes along with DJ Matthew David from Dublab. The music starts at 8pm but you might want to come early since admission is first come, first serve.

  • 8pm-10pm. 2-for-1 adult admission: $9. NHM, 900 Exposition Boulevard, Los Angeles 90007

Saturday, June 2

James Perse Summer Sample Sale
When I think of James Perse, I think incredibly, soft, expensive cotton t-shirts. Browse ’em at Bloomies but never buy them. Fortunately dear ol’ James is having a warehouse sample sale where men and women tees, tops, hoodies and sweats are up to 70% off.

  • 9am-5pm. Siren Studios, 6063 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles. Cash and credit cards only.

Sunday, June 3

16th Annual Los Feliz Village Street Fair
Hip Los Feliz Village is celebrating its 16th annual street fair. Boutique stores, tasty food from the Village restaurants and live music. And if pony rides and moon bounces aren’t your thing, I know the wine garden sponsored by Vermont Restaurant is!

  • 11am-8pm. Vermont Avenue between Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue.
