Worried about all that weight you’re about to gain from the turkeys, holiday cookies, pies, mashed potatoes, and figgy pudding you’re about to put away this holiday season? Why not do a pre-emptive strike against the bulge and do the Long Beach Turkey Trot? Every year over 3,000 people run/walk the 5K/10K course which starts and finishes at Belmont Olympic Pool and heads toward the Queen Mary and downtown Long Beach on the scenic beach bike path.

The cute and random factor? This year 250 random finishers will receive holiday pies at the finish line, others get cupcakes from the Frosted Cupcakery. OK, maybe this isn’t a good way to battle holiday bulge. But with the nice weather we’ve been having, it would be an excellent way to start off Thanksgiving Day…and work up an appetite for that turkey dinner.

START TIMES
10K RUN/WALK, 8:30 a.m.
5K RUN/WALK, 9:30 a.m.

Online registration ($30) closes tonight at 9pm but you can also register on race day ($35 cash only) beginning at 7am. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit organization Community Action Team but if you want to be extra kind there will be large red plastic bins near the registration tables where you can drop off nonperishables and canned goods which will be donated to local food banks.
