Sorry I’ve been out of it for awhile. Had a housewarming party to pull off and then got struck down by the flu. Weee! Ugh. But just when I was sitting at home feeling sorry for myself (and mulling over the different invites I got for Thanksgiving) I came across a couple of great volunteer opportunities for this Thankgiving. Why not make this holiday special by helping others out?

On November 22, the Los Angeles Mission in Downtown L.A. will be serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal to nearly 3,500 homeless people from Skid Row and the nearby communties. L.A. Mission needs about 400 volunteers to dole out the good stuff: turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls and pecan pies. Call (213) 629-1227 ext. 301 or fill out the Volunteer Form for more information.

Or you can donate an uncooked turkey or volunteer your oven (and yourself) to roast a turkey on Wednesday night for the Westside Thanksgiving Celebration at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Sign up to cook a turkey here. If cooking turkey ain’t your thing you can always make or purchase a pumpkin pie and deliver it to the SM Civic Auditorium Thursday morning between 8am and 10am. This is an interfaith group and volunteers are invited to sit down and enjoy Thanksgiving with the guests from 11am to 3pm. No reservations required just show up. It’ll be a full day of free services, entertainment and turkey!
