Remember when I said that I’m not a fan of sample sales? Well, I’m still not but every now and then when I drive past the Santa Monica Airport and I see a “Barney’s Warehouse Sale” sign advertising the bi-annual department store 50-75% sale I feel a small tug at my heart. “Should I go?” And then I imagine the hordes of women shoppers fighting mad over marked-down couture, scraps of fashion left from two seasons ago.

I have a friend who works at Barney’s and even with her promised discount in addition to the marked-down prices, I couldn’t bring myself to brave the Barker Hangar. But now my friend Julie has brought the store’s bi-annual sale to my attention (she mentioned a postcard she received advertising it).

Designer clothing, shoes and to-die-for accessories from Marc Jacobs, Manolo Blahnik and Prada are offloaded at progressively increasing savings of 50 to 80 percent off…Some ultra-prepared annual attendees wear spandex unitards to try on clothes over, as there are no dressing rooms—while others strip down right in the aisles. It’s a beautiful (if scary) thing.

Starting on August 10 through Sunday, August 20, shoppers can enjoy huge markdowns off high-end fashion. Julie claims that you can get things that were originally $400 for only $40 by the time they hit the sales floor. So if you’re willing to fight off crazed shoppers for that 75%-discounted Marc Jacobs T-shirt, by all means hit the sale. The sooner the better. Yes, the discounts increase as the sale wears on but by the time you hit the end, you’ll only have picked off heaps of out-of-fashion designer duds to choose from. And who wants that?

HOURS: Thursday and Friday, August 10th and 11th the sale will be from 10am to 9pm. Weekends 10am-7pm and Monday thru Friday 10am-8pm.
