Fast Times at Ridgemont High Screening at the Skirball

— by Caroline on Crack

Before Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow, there was Jeff Spicoli. Before American Pie there was Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This classic to be appreciated and handed down to our children for generations to come has served as a social commentary on teen angst, an Everyman tale through high school and a jumping off point for philosophical discussions. To quote Jeff Spicoli, “All I need are some tasty waves, cool buds and I’m fine…” Truer words have never been spoken, dude.

And just who could forget lovable pothead Spicoli, the stern Mr. Hand or poor knocked-up Stacy? Everyone could see a little bit of themselves in each character.

This Thursday you’ll have the opportunity to screen this timeless classic at the Skirball Cultural Center where Judd Apatow, director of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, will lead a talk with director of Fast Times, Amy Heckerling, before the movie as well as present the screening.
